Have you ever noticed how wanting more becomes normal? You get the thing you wanted, you reach the goal, you earn more money, you finally have the house, the relationship, the opportunity, the time, and for a moment it feels wonderful. And then somehow the goalposts move again. Why is it so difficult for us to actually feel like we have enough?
Hi, I'm Nicki Kuurman, and welcome to The Practical Mystic Podcast, where spirituality meets everyday life. This question, why is it so difficult to actually feel like we have enough? I want you to be curious with this. It's like how easily we shift our life from what we want to what's missing. And manifestation and abundance play a really fine line here because if you believe that you want something and you desire it and you're working towards it, [00:01:00] you have to also believe that you don't have it.
Because if you believed you have it, you wouldn't be searching for it. And it's interesting that abundance has been synonymous with money because we then think, "Is there ever enough money?" And we forget to live in the abundance of joy and presence and play, which is what we came here to do. Abundance seems to have been swallowed up by the manifestation culture, right?
It's all about getting more, having more, living an Instagram-worthy life. But true abundance, I feel, comes from the quality of our living. How alive do we feel on a day-to-day basis? The abundance of connection, of love, of joy, of fun. They are the things that fill us up and make our lives [00:02:00] enjoyable. Sure, money can facilitate some of those things, but we cannot get joy alone just from the money sitting in a bank doing nothing.
It's how we use and transact the energy and transmute that into experiences and life and fulfillment that give our life meaning. I've been spending a lot of time thinking about abundance lately. And yeah, there's always a desire for more money, bigger business, a dream house, holidays, things. But when it comes down to it, do any of those things actually bring me the most joy and fulfillment in my life?
When I think about being fulfilled in my life, the things that I want are spaciousness, time, beauty, learning, freedom, [00:03:00] choice, deep connection, and feeling fulfilled. Money can absolutely be part of my abundance, yet it's not the entire piece.
The thing that I long for is the experience of aliveness. I long for great conversation, and nature, and beauty and love and peace. I think as humans, we always want more. We always want more creativity, deeper learning, more connection. Yes, you can want more things, but do you want a boat just to sit in your driveway, or do you want to have a boat so that you can go out on the water and enjoy it?
The thing isn't what you're trying to get, it's the experience of having that [00:04:00] thing is what we're trying to get and so when we feel wealthy and rich and alive, it's because we are resourced and we have everything that we need at hand to live an abundant life Enough energy to play. Feeling well so that we can engage fully in joy.
Having great friends and family so that we feel connected and safe and less alone in the world. Money can absolutely be a part of that, and we don't want to spiritually sanitize the wanting of money because abundance is really asking, "What makes my life feel rich?"
What does abundance truly mean for you? How will you [00:05:00] know when you have enough? At what state are you meeting your life? Are you constantly thinking about what's missing? Or are you celebrating what is? Enough also doesn't mean settling.
Enoughness isn't, "Well, I should be grateful for what I've got and not want for anything more," because that's not realistic. You don't have to give up desires. You don't have to hold back on your creativity just because what you h- want isn't here yet. We love to strive and work towards things. That's part of our human nature.
And sometimes I hear people spiritually bypass themself with, "I should just be grateful for what I have," because they fall into a pretending that they don't want any more, they kind of give up their desire for fear of being greedy [00:06:00] or asking for too much. It's not wrong to want money, expansion, beauty, or a bigger life.
Perhaps abundance is holding all of those things. I can love what is here, and I can be curious about what else is out there, what I can create, what am I capable of receiving? So, what do you actually want? If we stop automatically saying, "I want more," and get super clear on what do we want more of? More money?
Money for what? More success? So that you feel what? A bigger house? What do you imagine doing in that bigger space that you're not doing today? More time? What would you do with it? [00:07:00] Lately, when I've been thinking about abundance, I've been thinking about this idea of I want more space, and I don't really know what that space is.
But I've been pondering, Spaciousness.
Space to create, space to ponder and be curious, space to not have to rush around. Just some space and some time to actually be present in my own life. And when I actually take time out for me and I make that a priority and I truly lean into the appreciation of the abundance of the space that is actually available to me, I can create more of it
When I make it a priority to focus on, time opens up Suddenly [00:08:00] I'm playing with time more.
I'm stretching it out, getting things done in a shorter amount of time so I've got more time to play in other areas. Sometimes a, a client will cancel at the last minute, and I could be upset about it, or I have an opportunity to go, "How am I going to fill this space that I now have? What's going to bring me joy?"
And I could easily fall into the next task or the next thing on the list, and sometimes I do. But sometimes I just revel in this hour or so that I have unexpectedly to just be me, to potter, to write, to create or just sit and think for a while, and that feels truly spacious, and that feels abundant to me Where is abundance already present in your life?
Not forced gratitude, [00:09:00] just noticing. Where do I already have enough? Where is there beauty? Where am I supported? Where do I have choice? Where is there love Where is there space? And what would I genuinely love more of?
There's no shame around any of your answers. It's just being curious. What is really driving me? What is it that I want to experience in this life? The ritual that I've been using currently has been with my Abundance Mist spray, and that I spray the mist, and I just allow it to settle around me, and I think about what it is that I notice in that [00:10:00] moment around my own fears of not getting what I want
And so, with the mist in the last few weeks, I've really been focused on today I receive. Today I receive, and I just notice what shows up What wants to be received?
An idea? Sometimes a friend buying me a coffee. I receive a compliment. I notice something beautiful. I receive the beauty of that thing. I notice a beautiful flower on my walk, and I appreciate that. I notice that I'm receiving beauty today. What I notice is that maybe abundance doesn't begin when more arrives.
Maybe it begins when we become available to what is already here, [00:11:00] fully resourced to enjoy our life. And from here, we're still allowed to want. We're still allowed to create and expand and have different experiences. That's being human
If you turn your thoughts and attention to what is already here and appreciating it. And noticing, ah, yes, I still want X, Y, Z. And giving yourself permission to want whatever that is. And then keep coming back to, and this is where I am right now, and this is amazing, and I want more, and this is amazing, and I want more.
This is amazing, and I want more. And just [00:12:00] keep playing with the energy circling up and up and up. It's not a fixed destination. A certain dollar amount is not going to equal your happiness forever. A certain thing showing up in your life is not going to be, be the end to your desiring of things but what are you going to do with the money and the things and how you're going to live your life, that's going to make you feel rich.
That's going to give you the aliveness that you're searching for. So, what if for today you notice how much of your life contains abundance? And how much are you available to notice even more that's already here? Abundance is your natural state of beingness
So, open up your heart and trust and surrender [00:13:00] to the flow of life. open to the infinite trust, ease, and receiving that is always available to you.
